Welllll, the UN is dirt-poor, so most Blue Helmets come from places like Bangladesh and are only in it for the — little — money. They have no education, they end up doing shit like this, and while they help in general (as your link to the backstory points out), they can’t manage to help much.
The annual budget of the UN is a couple of megabucks. The professors under whom my brother studied International Development had an in-joke: “let’s pool together and buy the UN”. Frankly, they should do that already.
There seems to be a UN-marked (what a pun!) truck nearby with at least one more blue helmet. I wonder how they reacted to this incident. Goons with guns are never a great combination.
I can’t imagine they reacted at all, KD. It’s not an incident unless someone gets shot (and then most of the time only if the person shot was white and/or american)
